VALDOSTA, Ga. – The 20th-ranked LSU women’s golf team will join many of its Southeastern Conference members at a unique first-year tournament that begins Monday hosted by the University of Kentucky and Kennesaw State University.
The Kinderlou Forest Challenge will be played on Valdosta’s Kinderlou Forest Golf Course. A Davis Love III designed course that opened in 2004, the course is host to a Nationwide tour event and has been recognized as one of the best golf courses in the South Georgia region.
Joining LSU and the two hosts – Kentucky and Kennesaw State – Virginia, Vanderbilt, Florida State, South Carolina, Ohio State, Florida State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Tulane, Kent State, North Carolina and UT Chattanooga.
The teams will playe36 holes on Monday before a final round of the 54-hole event on Tuesday.
“We are looking forward to this event since it will be the first time these teams have played an event on this course,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We’ve worked very hard the last couple of days on putting drills because we did not putt very well at all in the last two rounds of last week’s tournament. But we look to get better with each event.”
Amalie Valle who missed the first event of the spring, returns to the lineup after an illness and will be joined by Tessa Teachman, Megan McChrystal, Abby Oberthier and Jacqueline Hedwall. Teachman tied for 14th in the Central District Invitational last Monday and Tuesday with rounds of 71-74-77 for a six-over 222. Oberthier had one of her best LSU events, tying for 19th at eight-over 224.
The Lady Tigers finished in a three-way tie for fifth in the Central District event with a score of 34-over 898. LSU’s best round was the first at 295 followed by 303 and 300.
