BATON ROUGE–The 37th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team will square off against 17th-ranked Texas A&M in a 1 p.m. CST match on Sunday at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
LSU (2-4) earned its first two dual season victories in a doubleheader on Feb. 25 against UL-Lafayette and New Orleans, 6-1 and 4-0, respectively.
Texas A&M holds a 6-2 record with its most recent victories over Wisconsin (5-2) and Laredo Community College (7-0) on Feb. 21. The Aggies two losses stem from matches against Fresno State and Texas, each decided by a 4-3 mark.
LSU trails Texas A&M in the all-time series record 21-16. The teams last met in 2009 with the Aggies taking the match in a 4-3 decision in College Station, Texas.
This year’s match will feature nationally-ranked players for both LSU and Texas A&M.
The Tigers are led in the rankings and on the courts by 50th-ranked Neal Skupski. The 6-1 sophomore holds an 11-9 overall record in singles and is 3-3 against nationally-ranked opponents.
Jeff Dadamo and Austin Krajicek lead the Aggies in the rankings at No. 23 and No. 24. Dadamo lists a 13-5 overall record, and Krajicek posts 10-4 on the season. The two pair up to comprise the No. 13 doubles team with a 10-4 record.
The Aggies also list in the doubles rankings No. 31 Alex Grigorov and Marcus Lunt with a 2-0 overall record.
“Our team is excited about the challenge with Texas AM,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “They feel they’ve grown since the early part of the season, and we look forward to playing a team of this caliber.”
Admission to the “Dub” is free, and Sunday’s match will feature the second installment of Tiger Tennis Trivia after the doubles point, giving fans a chance to win gift certificates to local businesses if they can correctly answer questions about the LSU men’s tennis program.
