BATON ROUGE — LSU women’s swimmers Shanna Spears, Brooke Barnett and Kaelee Mader spent time visiting children at a local hospital Friday afternoon.

The athletes went room-by-room to cheer up all of the children who could see visitors.

“It is easy to get caught up in our busy schedules but taking time to visit the children in the hospital was very rewarding,” Barnett said. “It really opened my eyes and made me realize how fortunate and blessed I am to have my health. I loved spending time with the children, and it was great to see them smiling and laughing. If we can make their stay in the hospital a little more enjoyable, it is definitely worth our time.”

In addition, Spears, a 2009-10 SEC Community Service Team member, took part in the hospital’s Radiothon during the morning, answering phones and taking donation pledges from local residents.
