BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team will take on in-state rivals UL-Lafayette and New Orleans for a doubleheader in the team’s home-opener on Thursday at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
“It’s nice for this young team to get back home after taking some knocks on the road,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “We are looking forward to competing in front of our home fans.”
The Tigers (0-4) hold a perfect all-time record against ULL and UNO, posting a 19-0 and 22-0 record, respectively. The teams last met in a doubleheader at the “Dub” in 2009. LSU blanked ULL 4-0, and rolled to a 4-0 mark over UNO as well.
The Ragin’ Cajuns will bring a 2-5 dual record into this season’s matchup, and the Privateers carry a 1-2 mark.
Leading LSU is 50th-ranked sophomore Neal Skupski. The Liverpool, England, native owns an overall 10-9 record, holds a 3-3 record against nationally-ranked opponents and is looking to end his 0-4 dual match skid.
Since Brown’s inaugural season as head coach in 1998, the Tigers have notched an impressive 135-32 record on their home courts. Last season, LSU earned a 7-4 mark in front of home fans at the “Dub.”
The doubleheader originally scheduled to begin 2 p.m. will now kick off at 3 p.m. CST against the Ragin’ Cajuns. All home weekday matches, except Ohio State on March 23, will have a new start time of 3 p.m.
After the doubles point of the UL-Lafayette match, the LSU men’s tennis team will kick off Tiger Tennis Trivia in which fans will have the chance to win a variety of gift certificates by answering questions about the LSU men’s tennis program.
