COLUMBUS, Ohio — After a hard-fought battle, the LSU women’s tennis team could not capture a win at Ohio State as it lost to the Buckeyes, 5-2, Wednesday at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.
The Buckeyes (9-1) jumped to an early lead as they took the doubles point. OSU’s Gabby Steele and Fidan Manashirova defeated Kylie Adamek and Kaitlin Burns 8-2 on court three. On court two, Paloma Escobedo and Christina Keesey defeated the senior tandem of Nicole Kantor and Hannah Robinson 8-3.
Lady Tigers Whitney Wolf and Keri Frankenberger picked up another doubles win as they took down Kelsey Haviland and Cami Hubbs 8-5. The duo holds a 5-1 record on court one.
In singles, Frankenberger finished first as she fell short to Escobedo 6-1, 6-0 on court two.
On court three, Burns improved her record to 5-0 as she dominated Keesey 6-4, 6-1. The Wilmington, N.C., native rides on a five-match win streak. Manashirova beat Robinson 6-2, 6-4 on court six.
Ohio State’s Steele clinched the overall match for the Buckeyes as she knocked off Wilson 6-2, 6-1.
No. 120 Wolf gave tremendous effort on court one but was not able to upend No. 53 Kirsten Flower 6-0, 6-7(6), 10-4. On court four, Kantor dropped her first set to Haviland but rallied back to win her match in a tie-breaker 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.
“Ohio State played really well. We had some chances but weren’t able to come through. The team played well,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “Kaitlin keeps winning, and Nicole won a great match. We have to keep getting better and get ready for Florida State.”
The Lady Tigers (2-4) will be back in action Sunday to take on Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. First serve is set for 10 a.m. CST.
