Peterson Named to Ben Hogan Award Watch List

BATON ROUGE – LSU junior All-American John Peterson has already been recognized as one of the nation’s premier golfers during his collegiate career at LSU, and he was honored once again this weekend as a member of the watch list for The Ben Hogan Award presented annually to the NCAA’s top player.

The award is presented each year by Chesapeake Energy, in conjunction with Colonial Country Club, The Friends of Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The Ben Hogan Award honors the top men’s college golfer in NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA or NJCAA taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during a 12-month period.

Peterson, who earned Second-Team All-America honors from both PING and Golfweek following a great sophomore season in 2008-09, has carried that momentum into a junior season in which he has already earned a pair of top-five finishes in five tournament starts to lead the Tigers.

The semifinalists for The Ben Hogan Award will be announced April 14 followed by the three finalists on May 11. The three finalists for this year’s Ben Hogan Award will receive an invitation to Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, on May 24 for the Hogan Banquet, where this year’s recipient will be announced in a special ceremony.
