Gymnastics Holds Ranking; Jackson Still No. 1

BATON ROUGE – The LSU gymnastics team remained No. 11 nationally while senior All-American Susan Jackson retained the No. 1 all-around ranking for the fifth-straight week in the latest standings released Monday by GymInfo.

LSU (5-3, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) recorded its second-straight 196.475 team score against Texas Woman’s, matching the season high tallied against Alabama a week earlier.

LSU’s season average score jumped two tenths to 195.563, placing the Tigers just under two tenths behind Nebraska’s 195.721 for a top 10 ranking.

Alabama moved up to No. 1 with a 196.575 average followed by Oklahoma (196.563), Oregon State (196.129), Florida (196.117) and Utah (196.088) to round out the top five.

The SEC placed all seven teams in the top 14 as Arkansas checked in at No. 6 with a 196.079 average, Georgia was seventh (195.996), LSU was 11th, Auburn was 12th (195.413) and Kentucky was 14th (195.338).

In the team event rankings, LSU moved up one spot each on floor and beam to 10th and 13th, respectively, while the Tigers maintained 12th on bars and slipped two spots to 11th on vault. LSU averages a 49.038 on vault, 48.913 on bars, 48.675 on beam and 48.938 on floor.

In the individual rankings, Jackson kept the top spot with a 39.533 all-around mark, and she was followed by UCLA’s Vanessa Zamarripa, who averages a 39.475 all-around score.

In the events, Jackson checked in at No. 2 on vault with a 9.913 average, No. 5 on bars at 9.892, No. 7 on beam at 9.846 and No. 9 on floor at 9.883.

Junior Samantha Engle made her first career appearance in the standings as she earned the No. 19 bars ranking with a 9.840 average. Engle shattered her previous career high with a 9.95 against Texas Woman’s to win the event title.

The 11th-ranked Tigers will travel to sixth-ranked Arkansas for an SEC showdown Friday at 7 p.m. in Barnhill Arena.
