BATON ROUGE — When NCAA champion LSU opens its 2010 baseball season next Friday, fans will notice a bigger and better Alex Box Stadium.

The state-of-the-art ball park, which opened in February 2009, has received several upgrades to enhance spectator comfort and enjoyment.

Alex Box Stadium attracted an NCAA-record 403,056 fans last season, as LSU led the nation in baseball attendance for the 14th straight season.

“We have the best ball park in the country,” said LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva, “but we must continue to upgrade the stadium in order to provide our fans and players with a first-class environment. We are looking forward to next Friday night.”

Here are things for fans to look for when the 2010 season opens at 7 p.m. February 19 versus Centenary:

  • 950 new seats in right field, increasing stadium capacity to 10,150
  • “Intimidator” National Championship sign behind new right field seats
