No. 18 Softball Slated for Nine TV Games

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 18 LSU softball team is scheduled to be featured nine times on television for the upcoming 2010 season Wednesday as announced by the SEC office.

“It’s phenomenal for the game of softball and outstanding for our program to have the Tigers on television so much,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “I remember games on tape delay being carried for only a few innings from the Women’s College World Series in the 1990’s so this is how far softball has come. Anybody that gives our game a chance can fall in love with it. Our team plays extremely hard on TV because they know they’re not only representing LSU but the state of Louisiana. I feel TV is the last piece of the puzzle to make our game truly appealing to the masses.”

The Tigers open their television schedule with five conference games at Tiger Park live on Cox Sports Television in conjunction with LSU Sports Properties. Doubleheaders against Ole Miss (March 17) and Arkansas (April 17) along with the Mississippi State series finale (April 11) are slated to appear on the regional sports network out of New Orleans that has access to two million homes across seven states. CST is cable channel 37 and available in HD on channel 737 in the Baton Rouge market.

A quartet of games are part of the SEC on ESPN package highlighted by a 7 p.m. Thursday tilt against Georgia on April 29. ESPNU will carry the UGA series finale at 8 p.m. on April 30. The Tigers appear on the ESPN family of networks at Tennessee the following weekend.

The league office also announced that every game of the SEC Tournament for the first time will be carried live by either ESPN or ESPNU.

LSU squares off against No. 19 North Carolina, No. 21 DePaul and host Texas, a trio of 2009 NCAA Tournament squads, at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational starting on Friday.

Season and individual game tickets are on-sale now and can be purchased online on LSUSports.net, the official Web site of LSU Athletics. Tickets also can be purchased in person at the ticket office on the first floor of the Athletics Administration Building or by calling (225) 578-2184 or (800) 960-8587.

Fans are encouraged to get their season tickets to guarantee great seats for LSU’s impressive home slate that features 16 games against 2009 NCAA Tournament teams highlighted by match-ups against Michigan and Georgia, a pair of Women’s College World Series squads.
