BATON ROUGE – LSU senior outfielder Rachel Mitchell was selected by the Chicago Bandits with the 15th pick Wednesday in the National Pro Fastpitch College Senior Draft presented by Miken.
“I’m really excited about being drafted by Chicago,” Mitchell said. “I feel that my speed, power, hard work and love of the game will help me continue my professional career. I love LSU, and I can’t wait for our season to start this weekend.”
Mitchell has been one of 50 players picked to the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List for the last two seasons. She drove home a team-best 38 RBIs on a .306 batting average last season. The LaPorte, Texas product recorded 23 of those RBIs and posted a .479 on-base percentage in SEC action to rank sixth and ninth in those categories, respectively.
LSU squares off against No. 19 North Carolina, No. 21 DePaul and host Texas, a trio of 2009 NCAA Tournament squads, at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational starting on Friday.
