BATON ROUGE – After posting a career-high 39.725 all-around total to lead LSU to a 196.475-196.050 victory over No. 1 Alabama, senior All-American Susan Jackson was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week by the league office Tuesday.
The nation’s No.1 ranked all-arounder, Jackson was also named the SEC Top Performer for her outstanding performance against the Crimson Tide.
Jackson tied the LSU record for consecutive all-around titles by winning her fifth-straight crown against Alabama. Former LSU All-American Sandra Smith also won five-straight all-around titles to open the 1980 season.
Against the Crimson Tide, Jackson earned the vault, bars and floor titles and placed second on beam.
She scored a 9.95 on vault for the third time this season to win the event, and she also posted a season-best 9.95 on floor to cement the Tigers’ victory. On bars, she tied her season high with a 9.925, and she tallied a 9.90 on beam to lead LSU to its first 49-plus team score on the event.
The honor marks the second time of her career Jackson has been named SEC Gymnast of the Week. She also earned recognition last season when she scored a 39.700 in the all-around to lead the Tigers to victory over North Carolina State.
No. 11 LSU (4-3, 2-2 SEC) will be back in action Friday when the Tigers play host to Texas Woman’s at 7 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
