BATON ROUGE — The 28th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team will travel to Los Angeles, Calif. to face No. 35 Auburn Friday at noon CST at USC’s David X. Marks Stadium.

This season marks the second year of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The weekend will serve as rounds one and two of the National Indoor Championship, which will be held Feb. 12-15 at the University of Wisconsin.

The top-15 ranked schools serve as host sites for the weekend, and the 15 teams that win both of their matches will go on to compete at the National Indoor Championships along with host Wisconsin.

“We’re really excited to be competing in the National Indoor Championships again,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “We’re looking forward to playing some quality teams this weekend.”

LSU (2-0) opened the season strong as the Lady Tigers blanked UL-Lafayette and Prairie View A&M, 7-0, at home. The Lady Tigers are led by 120th-ranked Whitney Wolf and senior Nicole Kantor, who both own a 2-0 dual match record.

Auburn (1-1) is led by three-time All-American Fani Chifchieva who listed as No. 71 in the latest singles polls released by the ITA. Chifchieva is 1-1 on the season as she dropped her match to Georgia Tech’s Irina Falconi, who is the No. 1 player in the nation.

The Lady Tigers are guaranteed to play two matches, playing the second match Saturday against the winner/loser of the USC/San Diego.
