BATON ROUGE — LSU swimmer Jane Trepp and divers Brian Gemberling and Rebecca St. Germain were recognized by the Southeastern Conference Tuesday for their performances against nationally-ranked Texas A&M on Saturday.
Trepp was named the SEC Female Swimmer of the Week, Gemberling was tabbed the Male Diver of the Week and St. Germain earned Female Freshman of the Week honors.
Trepp enjoyed her best meet of the season against the sixth-ranked Aggies as the Lady Tigers’ co-captain swept her individual races, posted three NCAA provisional qualifying times and season bests, swam to a pool record and helped a pair of relays register NCAA ‘B’ cuts and season bests.
The junior overtook a six-year-old pool record in the 50-yard freestyle with a lead-off split of 22.91 seconds in the 200 free relay and handed the nation’s fastest 100-yard breaststroker, Alia Atkinson, her first loss of the season in that event with a provisional mark of 1:02.01. She also emerged victorious in the 100 butterfly with another ‘B’ cut of 53.99 and helped her team open the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay.
Gemberling shattered former All-American Niko Dalman‘s three-meter springboard record and edged Texas A&M’s Cameron McLean for the victory with a career best of 393.07. The sophomore also took second-place in the one-meter (305.55).
St. Germain came away with victories in both women’s springboard events. The San Antonio, Texas, native tallied a career-best score of 326.03 in the three-meter, which is fifth-highest in program history, and scored 295.35 points in the one-meter.
LSU will close out the dual-meet season this weekend with the 17th-ranked LSU men hosting UNO Friday and Saturday and the 24th-ranked Lady Tigers traveling to Texas to take on Houston and Rice.
