Men’s Swimming & Diving 17th in National Poll

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s swimming and diving team was ranked No. 17 in the latest poll released by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Thursday, moving up one spot from last month’s rankings.

The Lady Tigers also remained in the rankings, falling three spots to No. 24 in the women’s poll.

Both squads opened the 2010 portion of their schedules on a strong note with a sweep of the Florida Atlantic Owls in Boca Raton, Fla. The LSU men also held their own in a road meet against the sixth-ranked Florida Gators, earning six event victories and recording team season-bests in six races despite falling, 157.5-134.5.

LSU is one of seven Southeastern Conference squads ranked on the men’s side. Auburn is the highest-ranked of the bunch at No. 5. The Lady Tigers are one of six SEC teams in the women’s poll with Georgia leading the way in the top spot for the third-consecutive month.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will welcome nationally-ranked Texas A&M to the LSU Natatorium for their annual dual battle Saturday at noon. The programs will also celebrate Senior Day prior to the meet and honor the seven seniors on the men’s and women’s squads. The venue is located at the corner of Nicholson Drive and W. Chimes Street (next to the Carl Maddox Field House), and admission is free.
