CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The No. 29 LSU women’s tennis team completed the UVA Winter Invitational hosted by Virginia at the Boyd Tinsley Courts in Charlottesville, Va., Monday.
In singles, No. 120 Whitney Wolf fell to UNC’s Jelena Durisic in a tight three-set match 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Keri Frankenberger, a Gainesville, Fla., native, gave great effort but came up short to Gina Suarez-Malaguti 2-6, 7-6, 6-2.
Lady Tigers Kaitlin Burns and Nicole Kantor took down Zoe De Bruycker and Suarez-Malaguti of UNC 8-4 in doubles.
“North Carolina played really well. I was really pleased with our effort,” said head coach Tony Minnis.
“I was really proud of Nicole and Kaitlin for coming through and winning doubles. This weekend was a great experience, and we are looking forward to starting the season on Sunday.”
The Lady Tigers will return to action Sunday as the team hosts UL-Lafayette at 1 p.m. and Prairie View A&M at 5 p.m. for the season home-opener.
