BATON ROUGE — Following his performance against the sixth-ranked Florida Gators Sunday, LSU sophomore Brian Gemberling earned Southeastern Conference Male Diver of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday.
Gemberling emerged victorious in both springboard events in Gainesville, Fla., as he tallied winning scores of 367.88 and 318.45 in the three-meter and one-meter, respectively. His mark in the three-meter was just seven one-hundredths of a point shy of his career high, 367.95, which he set earlier this season at the University of Houston’s Cougar Classic Fall Invitational.
Last week at the Georgia Diving Invitational and Shootout, the Levittown, Pa., native recorded top-10 finishes in all three diving events. He placed fifth overall in the three-meter competition and captured runner-up honors in the three-meter “shootout.” In addition, he posted a career-high score in the platform, 263.80.
One of the 18th-ranked Tigers’ most consistent performers, Gemberling is ranked in the conference’s top 10 in both the one- and three-meter dives.
LSU will return to action on Jan. 23 when the Tigers welcome nationally-ranked Texas A&M to Baton Rouge. The meet is scheduled for noon (CST), and admission is free. For more information, check back with www.LSUsports.net.
