CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — LSU’s Whitney Wolf claimed her first tournament championship Sunday at the Harvard Invitational at the Beren Tennis Center in Cambridge, Mass.
“Whitney played an unbelievable tournament. She was on fire, and I’ve never seen her play like that before,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “I’m so proud of her for winning.”
The Pride, La., native defeated Christine Ordway of Cornell 6-1, 6-3, to capture the tournament title.
Freshman Ebie Wilson fell to Cornell’s Sarah ONeal 6-4, 6-3, in the finals match of her flight.
Lady Tigers Kaitlin Burns and Sloane Mathis came up short to their Brown opponents 6-1, 6-3, and 6-2, 6-1, in the consolation finals.
Junior Kylie Adamek added another win to her record as she took down Geraldine Leong of Cornell, 6-0, 6-2. Nicole Kantor defaulted her match to Brown’s Julie Flanzer.
In doubles, Kantor and Wolf knocked off Harvards Hideko Tachibana and Alexandra Lehman 8-6. The freshmen tandem of Kaitlin Burns and Ebie Wilson raced past Agnes Sibliski and Caroline Davis of Harvard by the score of 8-2. Adamek and Mathis lost to Harvard’s Samantha Gridley and Lacey Laciny 8-2.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action again Jan. 15-17, 2010, for the UVA Winter Invitational.
