BATON ROUGE — LSU softball head coach Yvette Girouard announced Thursday that Jessica Mouse will serve as team captain for the upcoming 2010 season as voted upon by her teammates.
“Jessica is the epitome of what a student-athlete wearing the LSU jersey should represent,” Girouard said. “She is a diligent student in the classroom, a community-service minded person and a relentless worker on the softball field.”
Mouse has played in 95 consecutive games for the Tigers dating back to the 2008 season. She batted .264 with two home runs and 14 RBIs, while her .388 on-base percentage was third on the team last season. Mouse also paced LSU with an impressive .991 fielding percentage.
LSU also announced who will serve on the Tiger Leadership Council. Each class has a member that will meet with the coaching staff periodically throughout the season to monitor team success. Joining Mouse on the council are Cody Trahan, Courtney Hollier and Rachele Fico.
LSU opens the 2010 season at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational where the Tigers square off against North Carolina, DePaul and host Texas, a trio of NCAA Tournament squads from a season ago.
LSU is sixth nationally and has compiled an impressive 441-137-1 record since Girouard took over the program prior to the 2001 season.
