BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were both nationally-ranked in the first edition of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Division I polls released Tuesday night.
The LSU men (1-4) were tabbed 15th in the nation with 161 votes, while the Lady Tigers (2-4) sit 21st with 67 votes.
The rankings are based on each team’s best dual-meet lineup as judged by voting coaches. The polls will be released four times during the dual-meet season.
“I think voters are seeing the talent that we have on these teams,” LSU head coach Adam Schmitt said. “Even though we may not have the best dual-meet records thus far, I’m glad to see voters are recognizing some of our accomplishments, especially considering we’ve had several athletes earn national and conference weekly honors, and a number of them rank among the nation’s best in their events.”
The Tigers are one of seven ranked men’s teams from the Southeastern Conference. Florida, Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee were each ranked in the top 10, while Kentucky and Alabama rounded out the poll for the conference in 19th and 21st, respectively.
Top-ranked Georgia, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee and Arkansas join the Lady Tigers as conference teams in the women’s poll.
