Women’s Golf Inks Austin Ernst

BATON ROUGE — LSU women’s golf coach Karen Bahnsen added another quality golfer to her roster Wednesday with the signing of the national letter-of-intent by Austin Ernst of Seneca, S. C.

Wednesday was the first day of the week-long early signing period.

Austin, a two-time AJGA Rolex Junior All-American in 2007 and 2009 is currently ranked No. 12 in the Golfweek/Titleist Sagarin Junior Girls Rankings for the Class of 2010 and just last month was named a winner of the Wendy’s High School Heisman at Seneca High School. She has tow career AJGA victories, both in 2007 to go with eight top five finishes.

She was a Class 3A All-State selection multiple times in high school, winning the state high school title in 2007, while finishing runnerup in 2006 and 2009. She was awarded the South Carolina Girls Beth Daniel Player of the Year award in 2007 and in 2008 qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur in Eugene, Ore. In 2006, 2008 and 2009 she qualified for the USGA Girls Junior and the last two years advanced to the match play portion of the event.

“We are very excited to have Austin join our team,” said Coach Bahnsen. “She is an excellent player and will add a lot of depth to our talented team. She has a wonderful family and she is an outstanding student with a weighted GPA of 4.621. Her credentials on the golf course are impeccable and she just continues to show the bright future of LSU women’s golf.”
