BATON ROUGE — After leading LSU to its third-straight SEC Western Division championship with a dominating 4-1 win over Arkansas on Friday night, senior All-American Malorie Rutledge has earned the SEC Offensive Player of the Week honor announced Monday by the league office.

Rutledge accounted for all four goals in the victory, including the game-winning goal in the 30th minute of play for her team-leading ninth goal of the 2009 season. She also tied a career high for a single game with three assists on the night, marking the third three-assist game of her collegiate career.

Rutledge is making a strong case to be named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year for the second season in a row as she leads the team with nine goals and 11 assists for 29 points this fall.

It was a record-setting performance for Rutledge against the Razorbacks on Friday night as she set a new LSU career record for points scored as she has now scored 93 points during her illustrious career in Baton Rouge. Rutledge broke the previous school record of 90 points scored by former all-conference performer Artie Brown from 2001-04. Rutledge has scored 24 goals and 45 assists for 93 points in four seasons.

For her performance, Rutledge has also been named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s Team of the Week announced by the organization on Monday morning.

Rutledge and the rest of the LSU soccer team are the No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament this week and are set to face No. 7 seed Vanderbilt in the first round on Wednesday with kickoff set for noon CT. LSU (12-4-3, 8-2-1 SEC) will compete as the No. 2 seed for the second year in a row after establishing a new team record with eight wins and 25 points in SEC play this fall.
