BATON ROUGE ? LSU’s preparations for Saturday’s non-conference contest against in-state rival Tulane continued on Wednesday as the ninth-ranked Tigers practiced for just over two hours here at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.
LSU and Tulane square off a 7 p.m. on Saturday in Tiger Stadium. The game will be televised on LSU’s in-house pay-per-view network, TigerVision. LSU ran its record to 6-1 overall last week following the 31-10 win over Auburn. Tulane, losers of three straight, comes into the contest with a 2-5 overall mark.
“I liked the preparation today,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “I think the week has gone well. I have liked our attention to detail and our enthusiasm. We have a very strong and healthy respect for Tulane and we are looking forward to playing them.
”Anytime you play an in-state school there’s guys that know each other on both teams. Either they went to high school across town, or went to the same school and know each other well. There is great respect there. Certainly there is a want to play against each other and we look forward to that.”
Miles said that sophomore quarterback Jordan Jefferson went through Wednesday’s practice session with no problems after being limited on Tuesday. Miles said that Jefferson will be ready to play on Saturday night against the Green Wave.
Miles said the Tigers have used this week’s practice to build on what the Tigers accomplished offensively last week against Auburn. LSU is coming off its best offensive performance of the year with 31 points and 376 total yards in the win over Auburn.
“Today in practice we threw the ball well and ran the ball better,” Miles said. “I can tell you that some of the things we did in last week’s game are still there. We’re still very confident.”
Against Tulane, the Tigers will face a Green Wave team who is paced on offense by running back Andre Anderson. In seven games, Anderson has rushed for 646 yards and six touchdowns. He’s averaging 92.3 yards per game and 4.9 yards per carry.
“I know that he has the potential to make some big plays,” Miles said of Anderson. “I think he is a talented running back. He can catch it and run it well. He’s got good size and some speed as well. He’s a very capable back.”
LSU will practice again on Thursday followed by a walk-thru on Friday afternoon.
