NEW ORLEANS ? LSU men’s tennis junior Sebastian Carlsson capped his run at the Wilson/ITA South Regional in the semifinals on Saturday at Tulane’s Goldring Tennis Complex.
After a straight-set defeat of UL-Lafayette’s Piotr Banas 7-5, 7-6 (2) in the quarterfinals, Carlsson faced off with Mississippi State’s George Coupland to fall 6-1, 6-3 in the semis.
“We were looking for someone to step up like Neal (Skupski) did at the All-American, and Julien did at Rice,” LSU assistant coach Danny Bryan said. “Sebastian took the lead and stepped up for us, and in the process, was able to take down top-10 (Saketh Myneni) on his way to the semifinals.”
Tiger tandem Neal Skupski and Stefan Szacinski had a successful doubles run as well.
The Skupski-Szacinski team scored two victories en route to the doubles quarterfinals before Alabama’s Trey Walston and Houssam Yassine narrowly edged out the duo by a 9-7 mark.
Next up, the Tigers travel to Tampa, Fla. for the University of South Florida Invitational slated for Oct. 30- Nov. 1.
