AUBURN, Ala. — The LSU women’s tennis team picked up six wins Friday at the ITA Southern Regional Championships hosted by Auburn at the Yarborough Tennis Center in Auburn, Ala.
“I was pleased with how we played today. We lost a couple of tough matches but won more than we lost, so I was pleased with the results,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “Hopefully we can continue with a little momentum and play well again tomorrow.”
The day began with main draw doubles as the fourth-seeded senior and sophomore duo of Nicole Kantor and Whitney Wolf cruised past Ana Burjaili and Lena Satge of UL-Monroe 8-2 in the first round and Auburn’s Myrthe Molenveld and Paulina Schippers 8-3 in round two.
Lady Tigers Kylie Adamek and Keri Frankenberger teamed up against Mia Gordon and Audrey Woodland of UL-Lafayette 8-6 in round one but fell to Ole Miss’s Abigail Guthrie and Soledad Podlipnik 8-3 in round two.
Freshmen Kaitlin Burns and Ebie Wilson came up short to Auburn’s Fani Chifchieva and Caroline Thornton 8-5 in the first round.
In singles, No. 9 seed Kantor was down 5-1 in the first set but rallied back to defeat Lindsay Dvorak of Tulane 7-5, 6-1. Seventh-seeded Wolf, a Pride, La., native, took down South Alabama’s Alina Volman 6-1, 6-3.
Burns raced past Taylor Schreimann of Auburn 6-2, 6-1, and Wilson fell to Troy’s Karoline Grymel 6-1, 6-1.
The Lady Tigers will take the courts again Saturday for doubles matches beginning at 8:30 a.m. CDT followed immediately by consolation singles and main draw singles.
