BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team is ranked among the Top 20 teams in the country for the fourth week in a row as it is ranked as high as No. 14 this week after moving up one spot in the latest Soccer Times Top 25 released by the organization on Monday morning.
The Tigers have also moved up four spots to No. 16 in this week’s Soccer America Top 25 poll published Monday, while they have dropped one spot to No. 17 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25 ranking released Tuesday afternoon.
LSU (10-3-3, 6-1-1 SEC) is currently tied with South Carolina for the top spot in the SEC standings while both teams have earned 19 points in league play with just three regular season games remaining.
The Tigers are locked in a tight battle for their first ever SEC regular season championship as the Florida Gators follow closely behind in third place with 17 points in league play. The Georgia Bulldogs are close behind in fourth place with 15 points, while the Ole Miss Rebels are also alive in the race with 14 points.
LSU will make the trip to Gainesville, Fla., on Thursday night as it takes on Florida at 6 p.m. CT at James G. Presley Stadium. The club will then return to the LSU Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon as it hosts South Carolina in a 2 p.m. tilt in the final home match of the 2009 season. Sunday’s match is set for a live television broadcast on ESPNU as part of the network’s coverage of the SEC.
