BATON ROUGE — The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes has added a trio of staff members since the beginning of the 2009-10 season. LSUsports.net continues its three-part series with Kim Gedde, who was hired as a Learning Specialist in August.

“It’s a great honor and privilege to assist in educating this terrific group of student-athletes at LSU,” Gedde said. “I’m humbled to be joining such an intelligent and talented staff at the Center and look forward to learning from all of them.”

Gedde designs and implements academic support plans for student-athletes who have learning challenges.  In her position as a Learning Specialist, Gedde works in collaboration with academic counselor within their respective college, the academic counselor within the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes, Psychological Services Center, the Office of Disability Services staff, coaches, and the student-athletes.

“Kim possesses many of the tangibles but more importantly, the intangibles that we deem important within the profession as we cultivate these young minds,” Executive Director Kenneth Miles said. “She will surely add to the academic, personal and professional development of our student-athletes.”

Gedde spent 2008-09 academic year as a mentor for the Center, a full-time LSU Doctoral student and teaching assistant in Musical Arts. She has completed her class load and is currently working on her dissertation.

Prior to LSU, Gedde was a teacher in the St. Michael/Albertville public school system in Minnesota. She graduated with a Master of Musical Arts from Bowling Green State University in 2004, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Lawrence University in 2002.
