BATON ROUGE — LSU sophomore pitcher Brittany Mack earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors Wednesday as announced by the governing body of collegiate softball.
Mack carries a 3.5 GPA as a kinesiology major and also was a member of the 2009 SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll.
“We are extremely proud of Brittany,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “She is diligent and a fierce competitor not only on the playing field but also in the classroom. We’re excited to see the development from her freshman to her sophomore season in the circle.”
Mack compiled an 11-4 record with a 2.36 ERA and racked up 110 strikeouts in 103.2 innings last season. She held opponents to a staff-low .197 batting average. Both her ERA and opponent batting average ranked inside the SEC’s Top 10. The Round Rock, Texas product also tossed a no-hitter against Texas State en route to 2009 Purple & Gold Challenge Tournament MVP accolades.
LSU tallied a 34-18-1 record during the 2009 season and made its 11th NCAA Regional appearance since softball was reinstated in 1997. The Tigers are sixth nationally and have racked up an impressive 441-137-1 record since Girouard took over the program prior to the 2001 season.
