BATON ROUGE — LSU’s 10th-ranked football team went back to work on Tuesday in what was the first of three practices for the Tigers during the open date week.
The Tigers opened the off week with a team meeting on Monday afternoon before practicing on Tuesday. LSU is scheduled to practice again on Wednesday and Thursday before taking the weekend off. LSU returns to action on Oct. 24 when they host Auburn in Tiger Stadium.
LSU goes into the open date with a 5-1 overall record and a 3-1 conference mark. The Tigers are coming off a 13-3 loss to No. 1 ranked Florida last Saturday in Tiger Stadium.
LSU coach Les Miles said the Tigers are using this week as an opportunity to improve as a team before turning their attention to next week’s opponent.
“We talked to the team, and the team has come together this week with the mindset to improve,” Miles said. “Each guy in this team room is committed to improve their role, their technique and therefore, strengthen us on offense, defense and special teams.
“Certainly the offense wants to play better, but in all three phases, there are ways for us to win that (Florida) game and play better. As a coaching staff and as a team, that’s where we’re headed.”
Miles said that after reviewing the Florida film, there were some things that Tigers could have done much better in the contest.
“(The coaching staff) reviewed each snap and I can tell you that there are some things the coaches would like to do better,” Miles said. “There were ways that we could have executed in that game and won. I felt that Florida was very talented, played very well and certainly deserved to win, but we felt like we could’ve played better.
“Any time that happens it’s a little hard on us. We studied and came to some points where we could improve. Those spots and those positions we are working on; some are strategy and some are personnel. It’s an ongoing evaluation.”
Miles said the Tigers will introduce a portion of the Auburn game plan on Wednesday before fully implementing the plan on Thursday.
