Men’s Golf Final Round Washed Out

MACON, Ga. — With many teams completing just three holes during Monday’s competition at the third-annual Brickyard Collegiate Championship, the final round was canceled and all scores wiped out after a series of heavy thunderstorms rolled through the Brickyard at Riverside Golf Club.

The final results were tallied following Sunday’s second round of action at the par-72 layout as the Tigers earned a sixth-place finish with a 36-hole score of 9-over par 585.

Junior Clayton Rotz was LSU’s top performer on the weekend as he tied for 15th place on the leaderboard with a two-round score of even-par 144, including rounds of 1-under 71 and 1-over 73.

Junior John Peterson finished two shots back in a tie for 28th place at 2-over par 146, while junior Andrew Loupe posted a 3-over 147 to finish the championship in a tie for 35th place. Sophomore Josh Jones fired a 36-hole score of 5-over 149 to tie for 47th place, and fellow sophomore Sang Yi posted a 7-over 151 to tie for 52nd place in the final individual standings.

Sophomore Austin Gutgsell carded rounds of 2-over 74 and 3-over 75 in the first and second rounds to tie for 47th place at 5-over 149 while competing as an individual.

The Augusta State Jaguars ran away with the team championship after claiming a 13-stroke victory with a two-round total of 13-under 563. Clemson and Chattanooga finished in a distant second place with scores of even-par 576. Georgia’s Russell Henley captured the individual crown by five strokes over John Tyler Griffin of Georgia Tech with a cumulative score of 10-under 134.

The Tigers will return to action in two weeks when they play host to the David Toms Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Louisiana scheduled for Oct. 26-27. LSU will welcome an outstanding 14-team field to Baton Rouge as it plays host to its first home tournament in five seasons.
