BATON ROUGE — The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes has added a trio of staff members since the beginning of the 2009-10 season. LSUsports.net opens its three-part series with Walt Holliday, who was hired as an Assistant Director of Academics in June.

“I’m very excited to be here at LSU and be a key contributor to our ?Ladder of Success Program’ which focuses on the total development of our student-athletes with one goal in mind: changing attitudes, changing behaviors, and changing lives,” Holliday said.

Holliday works with the football team on a daily basis to ensure both their academic and personal development. He monitors the Tigers academic progress to ensure eligibility requirements are met but more importantly ensuring graduation and preparing our young men for life after college.

“I’m truly glad to have Walt join the Tiger family,” executive director Kenneth Miles said. “He was the perfect fit for what we were looking for and has a wealth of experience in developing the total student-athlete. Walt also is widely respected and nationally recognized by his colleagues in the profession.”

Holliday is an active member of the National Association for Athletic Advisors where he is currently the co-chairperson for the student athlete recognition committee. He also served on the executive board from 2000-2002 as a Region One representative and has presented at three national conventions.

Prior to LSU, Holliday served as Senior Academic Advisor at Rutgers from 1994-2001 for the men’s basketball program before moving onto Temple as an Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support from 2001-06. He also worked as an Assistant Director of Academics at Maryland for the football program from 2006-09.

Holliday graduated from Upsala College in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in communications where he served as an assistant football coach from 1991-94.
