BATON ROUGE — After racing out to a perfect 4-0 start in league play, the Southeastern Conference leading LSU soccer team continues to climb in the national rankings as it has catapulted itself all the way to No. 10 in the latest Soccer Times Top 25 released Tuesday afternoon.
This marks just the second time in program history that the Tigers (8-2-2, 4-0-0 SEC) have earned a Top 10 national ranking as they are up seven spots in the Soccer Times Top 25 from a week ago.
LSU cracked the Top 10 for the first time in program history a year ago when it received a No. 9 national ranking in the Soccer America Top 25 released on Sept. 22, 2008.
The Tigers have also made a tremendous jump in both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25 and Soccer America Top 25 released this week. The squad is up 10 spots to No.13 in the NSCAA poll released Tuesday and up five spots to No. 15 in the Soccer America poll released Monday.
This comes on the heels of earning a No. 14 ranking in the first Ratings Percentage Index published from the NCAA on Monday evening. The RPI is the primary ratings system used by the NCAA selection committee when determining which teams will receive at-large bids to compete in the NCAA Tournament following the regular season. LSU is looking to compete in postseason play for the third year in a row.
The Tigers are 8-2-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in SEC play to this point in the season as they are currently alone in first place in the overall conference standings with 12 points.
LSU is riding a school record seven-game unbeaten streak in SEC play after defeating Alabama by a 3-0 margin on Friday night and Auburn by a 2-0 count on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers will head back on the road this weekend to take on Kentucky on Friday at 6 p.m. CT and Vanderbilt on Sunday at 1 p.m.
