Tennis Begins ITA All-American Qualifying

TULSA, Okla. — Junior Sebastian Carlsson and sophomore Neal Skupski of the LSU men’s tennis team will travel to the D’Novo All-American Championships hosted by the University of Tulsa for the qualifying singles rounds beginning on Monday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Carlsson hits the courts first for LSU and takes on UNLV’s Luca Barlocchi.

The tournament marks the first competition of Carlsson’s junior career with the Tigers. The Uppsala, Sweden native earned a 15-19 singles mark his sophomore season and proved versatility playing a variety of court positions.

Skupski will take on 61st-ranked Keziel Juneau of William and Mary for his fall debut.

As a freshman, Skupski notched the second-most team wins behind former senior standout Michael Venus to earn a 21-16 record, including a victory over then 69th-ranked Nejc Podkrajsek of Georgia State.

Last year, Venus became the first in the history of the LSU men’s tennis program to capture the All-American Crown when he defeated then top-ranked Oleksandr Nedovyesov of Oklahoma State in a three-set standoff,  7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-4.

Carlsson kicks off competition for the Tigers against Barlocchi at 10:30 a.m. CDT, followed by Skupski’s match up against Juneau at 1:30 p.m.

In addition to competing in the qualifying singles rounds, Carlsson and Skupski will team up for the doubles main draw. Combined, the duo makes the No. 18 tandem in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Preseason Rankings.
