LSU Kicks Off Breast Cancer Awareness Month

BATON ROUGE — LSU Athletics is teaming up with LSU University Recreation (UREC) to launch Breast Cancer Awareness Month with an initiative for the LSU community to create awareness, impart knowledge and raise money in support.

The opening event is scheduled for Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. inside the Student Recreation Complex. LSU volleyball head coach Fran Flory along with Mike the Tiger will be on-hand.

Dr. KC White, Dean of Students and Interim Vice Chancellor of Student Life, will be featured in the ceremony.  Dr. White is currently undergoing the final rounds of chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer, which will then be followed by radiation.  Due to the support of the LSU community and the outstanding treatment options in Baton Rouge, she has been able to continue to work on behalf of our students and is proud to be a survivor.

Dr. White will lead a 1-mile “Victory Walk” on Friday, October 16 hosted by LSU UREC. The walk is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. starting at UREC, moving down “Victory Hill”, and eventually ending at the Maravich Center for the LSU’s “Dig for the Cure” volleyball match against Arkansas at 7 p.m.

To participate in the walk, individuals must register at any LSU UREC Guest Service location with a minimum donation of $10. All walk registrants will receive free admission to the LSU-Arkansas match. A pink treadmill also will be on location in the arena for fans to show their support and log additional miles. All proceeds from the “Dig for the Cure” match will be donated to the Side-Out Foundation.

Fans unable to attend the LSU-Arkansas match can still donate to the Side-Out Foundation online on LSU’s team page located at http://www.side-out.org/application/teams/team_page/1586.
