Softball Starts Fall Team Practices

BATON ROUGE — After two weeks of individual workouts, the LSU softball team gathered for its first team practice of the 2009-10 season Tuesday with a rigorous morning workout at Tiger Park.

The Tigers completed a 60-minute running session inside the indoor football facility with Strength & Conditioning Coach Melissa Moore prior to taking the field.

“It was an excellent first day full of energy and hard work,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “We’re excited about having our first fall season at Tiger Park and experimenting with a new workout timeline. Our Director of Softball Operations, Quinlan Duhon, produced and played a very uplifting, inspirational video to start our new season before we touched a softball.”

LSU divided into position groups to fine tune fundamentals for the two-hour workout. Pitchers and catchers worked exclusively with Girouard. Outfielders and infielders ran drills with Associate Head Coach James DeFeo and Assistant Coach Kristen Hobbs, respectively.

LSU starts the fall season Saturday with its Alumni Game. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Tiger Park and admission is free to the event.
