BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball team finished up its second of two sessions in media training Tuesday in the press conference room of the LSU Athletics Department.
The session was directed by Dr. Shirley White under the auspices of the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes and the Shaquille O’Neal/CHAMPS program.
Media training is being given a special emphasis this year by the LSU Athletics Department to prepare student-athletes with the questions and the situations they may be put in during the student year and to help them in interview situations beyond their athletic career. The team took part in individual and group press conference sessions Tuesday and the session was taped so that the players can go back and hear and see themselves on camera.
“The media training is very important,” said sophomore guard Chris Bass. “Depending on how the year goes, I may get more media time this season and I really need to take advantage of this and practice what we learned in these two weeks. Whether it is at the next level or whatever I do in life after I leave LSU, this will help me in being better at whatever I do.”
Other athletic teams are going through similar media training sessions during the course of the year and LSU Vice-Chancellor/Director of Athletics Joe Alleva will speak to the importance of the media training sessions and improvements being made to the Cox Communications lab for media training in an interview detailing LSU’s recently announced strategic plan Saturday during the LSU Sports Radio Network pre-game show (7:30 p.m. CDT) that airs prior to the start of the LSU-Washington football game. The pregame show is also broadcast in the Geaux Zone at www.LSUsports.net.
