BATON ROUGE — For her performance in leading the LSU soccer team to its first win of 2009 against Southern Miss on Friday night, senior defender Nikki Bush was named to the first TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.
This is marks the first time in her LSU career that Bush has been named to a National Team of the Week following the Tigers dominating 3-0 shutout of the Golden Eagles on Friday at the LSU Soccer Complex.
A native of Clinton, Miss., Bush set a career high with two assists from her position at right back as LSU is now 1-1 on the season heading into Friday’s match against Central Florida.
Bush assisted with Melissa Clarke’s game-winning goal in the 40th minute of play, while she also earned an assist on Malorie Rutledge’s second goal of the game in the 82nd minute to give LSU a 2-0 lead against Southern Miss. She was also a part of an LSU defensive back line that limited the Golden Eagles without a shot on goal for 90 minutes in the match.
The Tigers will return to action this weekend as they travel to Tampa, Fla., to compete in the 2009 South Florida Invitational to be held at the USF Soccer Complex. LSU will take on Central Florida on Friday at 4 p.m. CT before battling tournament host South Florida on Sunday at 11 a.m.
