BATON ROUGE — LSU softball players Cody Trahan and Morgan Russell helped make one boy’s wish come true as they took 11-year-old Steven Barnard on a tour of Tiger Stadium and the Football Operations Center Thursday.
Barnard, a native of Grayson, La., is battling leukemia, and LSU Athletics teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to give Barnard a first-class tour of LSU facilities.
Trahan and Russell presented Barnard and his family with an LSU softball media guide, a Tiger Park inaugural season bat and a softball poster signed by the entire team.
“It is an incredible feeling to give back, especially to families that are struggling with an illness,” Russell said. “It puts my life in perspective and makes me happy to be a part of something so special.”
After touring Tiger Stadium Trahan and Russell traveled with Barnard and his family to the Football Operations Center where Barnard toured the entire facility and received LSU t-shirts, a hat, a helmet decal and a picture signed by football coach Les Miles.
“Coach Girouard is always telling us how fortunate and blessed we are as LSU softball players,” Trahan said. “It is a great feeling to give back to those who support us, LSU Athletics and this university. I am glad I could be a part of this.”
The LSU softball team will begin individual workouts next week in preparation for the 2010 season.
