BATON ROUGE — The 2009 regular season is now in full swing and the LSU soccer team looks to rebound from its season opening defeat to Memphis a week ago when it plays host to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Friday night with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early to reserve their seats as Friday’s match is a Student Point Match at the LSU Soccer Complex. The first 300 fans through the gates will receive a free bag of peanuts, and the first 200 students arriving at the match will receive a free order of nachos.
Not only that, but all fans in attendance on Friday night will have the chance to win two free tickets to the Vanderbilt football game for LSU’s home opener at Tiger Stadium on Sept. 12.
Tickets to the match are $5 for adults and $3 for youths. Fans who are unable to attend can listen to a live radio broadcast of the match online at www.totalsportsradio.com.
The Tigers (0-1) are looking to rebound from a 2-0 defeat at the hands of two-time defending Conference USA champion Memphis on Aug. 21. This marks LSU’s third meeting all-time with Southern Miss as it boasts a perfect 2-0 record all-time, including a 3-0 shutout in their last meeting on Aug. 31, 2007.
“There is no doubt that we must play with passion and intensity tomorrow night if we hope to come away with a result against Southern Miss,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “This will certainly be an early season test for our team to see how we bounce back from a tough loss to Memphis a week ago. We expect great weather and a great crowd, and we look forward to another great environment in which to compete.”
The Golden Eagles (0-1) enter a new era under first-year head coach Scott Ebke as they also dropped their season opener against South Alabama by a 3-0 margin.
After taking on Southern Miss on Friday night, the Tigers will hit the road next weekend as they travel to Tampa, Fla., to compete in the South Florida Invitational to be held at the USF Soccer Stadium. LSU will take on Central Florida on Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. CT before battling South Florida on Sept. 6 at 11 a.m.
