BATON ROUGE — Tuesday marked the start of a one-a-day practice schedule for LSU as the Tigers held a morning workout of 2 ? hours here indoors at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

The Tigers are scheduled to have an abbreviated scrimmage on Wednesday before another full scale scrimmage on Saturday morning in Tiger Stadium. LSU’s final scrimmage of preseason camp will take place next Tuesday in Tiger Stadium.

“Today’s practice was a long go,” LSU coach Les Miles said following the workout. “We did take some of the load off because we are going to practice a little harder tomorrow. We’ll have some contact and tackling tomorrow so we were looking to rest them a little bit today so they’ll be fresh tomorrow.

“I think we continue to make improvement in all three phases. The defense was, in my opinion, really coming to life, and that’s nice to see. I think the offense and our quarterbacks are playing very well. We’re a ways away. There’s a gap between our team right now and the team we want to be and the team we need to be in the opener. It’s about closing that gap. That’s where the focus is.”

Miles said that sophomore quarterback Jarrett Lee returned to practice on Tuesday after sitting out of Monday’s workouts.

“(Jarrett) practiced today and didn’t miss a beat,” Miles said. “Basically, he got nicked, and we wanted to give him some time off.

Miles also mentioned that none of the injuries that have occurred during camp would keep a player from playing in the season opener against Washington.

“At this point there’s nothing that would curtail a guy playing in the opener,” Miles said. “That includes (wide receiver) Brandon LaFell. He practiced today.”
