BATON ROUGE — Members of the LSU women’s basketball team and track and field student-athletes Lauren Saucier and Kyle Rose will serve as judges for the Capital Area United Way’s 22nd annual Jambalaya Cookoff at 10 a.m. Friday in the Baton Rouge River Center Exhibition Hall.
Over the years, Capital Area United Way has created a tradition of competition and community spirit between companies throughout the 10-parish community. The competition has grown to be one of the largest jambalaya cook offs in Louisiana. This year, over 40 companies will compete for the 2009 top cooking title. LSU student-athletes will judge the friendly competition.
United Way Member Agencies will be submitting centerpieces to showcase their services. Judges will score the centerpieces and the winning agency will receive a $1,000 prize.
Following the event, employees from Dow Chemical Company will deliver plate lunches to the Erwinville Community Center and the Port Allen Food Pantry in their hometown parish of West Baton Rouge. Additional plate lunches will be picked up by the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and taken to various locations throughout the Capital Area.
