Soccer Completes First Week of Practice; Set for Fan Day

BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team wrapped up its first week of fall camp with a 10 a.m. training session Saturday morning at the LSU Soccer Complex following three consecutive two-a-day practices as it gears up for its preseason exhibition match against the Texas Longhorns on Aug. 14.

The Tigers and Longhorns will kick it off at 7 p.m. on Friday at the LSU Soccer Complex. LSU will open the 2009 regular season at home on Aug. 21 as it welcomes the defending Conference USA champion Memphis Tigers to Baton Rouge for a 7 p.m. kickoff at the LSU Soccer Complex.

LSU Soccer Season Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased for $35 for adults and $15 for youths at the official website for LSU athletics, www.LSUsports.net.

Fans also have the opportunity to purchase the “Ultimate Fall Season Pass,” which allows admission to all 2009 regular season home games for both the LSU soccer and volleyball teams. The “Ultimate Fall Season Pass” is $50 for adults and $25 for youths and is available for all 21 home contests for both teams.

“We’ve had a very good first week of fall camp. We have a veteran group of girls in camp this fall, and it has been an intense and competitive first week of camp,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “There is still a tremendous amount of work to be done before we go up against Texas next weekend. They will bring yet another outstanding team to Baton Rouge, and we will need to be at the top of our game to compete.

“We’ve certainly taken steps in the right direction since practicing for the first time on Wednesday. We’ll get a well-deserved day off Sunday to spend some time with our fans.”

Like the football team, the LSU soccer team will take part in Fan Day festivities on Sunday at the River Center in downtown Baton Rouge as the players and coaches will sign autographs and interact with their fans from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Posters and schedule cards will be available to all in attendance.

“This will be a great opportunity for fans to stop by on Fan Day and spend some time with the team prior to the start of the season,” Lee said. “We’ve got some great fans and we are all appreciative of the support they’ve always shown us. We could not be the championship program we are today without their support. We certainly hope they come out and spend some time with us tomorrow.

The Tigers will return to the practice field on Monday for their fourth two-a-day practice of camp as it has 10 more training sessions scheduled prior to its season opener against Memphis on Aug. 21.
