BATON ROUGE — With a preseason exhibition match against the Texas Longhorns just nine days away, LSU head coach Brian Lee put his squad through its first two-a-day practice of fall camp Wednesday with a pair of training sessions at 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex.
The Tigers are preparing for a preseason exhibition against the Texas Longhorns on Aug. 14 and the 2009 season opener against the defending Conference USA champion Memphis Tigers on Aug. 21. Each match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff at the LSU Soccer Complex.
LSU has 15 more training sessions scheduled in the next two weeks and four more two-a-day practices as the squad prepares to welcome Memphis to Baton Rouge for its regular season opener.
The Tigers kicked off its morning practice with a fitness test at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium that included a one-mile time trial before moving over to the LSU Soccer Complex for a 90-minute technical-based training session. The team then competed in a 40-minute 11-on-11 scrimmage in the afternoon.
“The girls are coming into camp following a tremendous off-season in our strength and conditioning program, and it showed with the way they competed against one another in our first day of practice,” Lee said. “Reporting to camp in shape is critically important in having a productive fall camp as our team gets ready for the start of the season. These next two weeks will be critical to our success.
“Today was a big first step for our team in reaching the goals that we have set for ourselves this season. I am very pleased with the effort and intensity that I saw on the training ground today. That is what I expect each time we step onto the field, whether it be for a practice or a game.”
