GRANBY, Quebec, Canada — Former LSU tennis player Ken Skupski and doubles partner Colin Fleming captured the doubles championship at the National Bank’s Challenger of Granby held at St. Luc’s Courts on Saturday.

Second-seeded Skupski and Fleming overcame three opponents en route to the final where the duo posted a 6-3, 7-6 (6) mark over Amir Hadad and Harel Levy to clinch victory.

Skupski and Fleming continue to hold a solid presence in the ATP’s World Rankings and posted at No. 108 on July 27.

“It is gratifying to see your former players succeeding professionally in tennis and in all of their various chosen careers,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “It is an exciting time for our tennis program because with former players moving up in the world rankings, it gives us positive feedback that what we are doing is working.”

In addition to Skupski, former Tigers Michael Venus and Colt Gaston also saw success over the weekend.

Venus and Gaston, teammates during the 2007-08 season, reached the finals of the Lewis and Clark Community College USTA Men’s Futures Tennis Tournament.

The duo made a run for the title but was cut short after fourth-seeded Cory Parr and Todd Paul took the championship 6-1, 6-4.
