Track & Field Athletes Honored for Academic Success

BATON ROUGE — Seven members of the LSU track and field team have been honored for their outstanding academic performance during the 2008-09 athletic year as the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its 2009 NCAA Division I All-Academic Team on Tuesday.

Among the Tigers and Lady Tigers who have been named to this year’s team by the USTFCCCA are seniors Rabun Fox, Anna Lyons and Adam Wilcox, junior Katelyn Rodrigue, sophomores Mark DeBlanc and Melissa Ogbourne and freshman Rachel Laurent.

The USTFCCCA honors Division I athletes for their academic and athletic achievements during both the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective events. A record total of 858 men and women nationwide have been named to this year’s team.

The LSU track and field team takes great pride in its performance both on and off the track, and its seven selections ranks No. 4 among all track and field programs in the Southeastern Conference.
