WIMBLEDON, England — Former LSU tennis standout Ken Skupski and doubles partner Colin Fleming will compete in the gentlemen’s doubles main draw of the Wimbledon Championships scheduled to begin Monday at the All England Lawn Tennis Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
The wild card duo will square off against Johan Brunstrom and Jean-Julien Rojer in the first round of competition. The match time has yet to be scheduled.
The grass court competition is the third Grand Slam event of the year and takes place June 22-July 25.
Skupski, currently ranked No. 138 in the world in individual doubles rankings, and partner Fleming reached the quarterfinals of their last two tournaments at both the AEGON Championships and AEGON International.
In 2008, Skupski made his first appearance at Wimbledon with doubles partner Richard Bloomfield and is the second Tiger coached by LSU head coach Jeff Brown to compete at Wimbledon. Former LSU player Dan Kiernan played in the doubles tournament in 2004 and reached the second round in 2005.
Skupski left the Tigers after the 2006-07 season, having played at the No. 1 singles spot his entire career. The Liverpool, England native earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s All-America status three times during his time at LSU, twice in singles and once in doubles. The four-year letterman currently holds the fourth-most wins in school history at 104 and also holds the record for most doubles wins in a season after he compiled 34 victories with partner Mark Growcott in 2005.
