Minnis, Falcon Receive ITA Regional Awards

BATON ROUGE — LSU women’s tennis head coach Tony Minnis was named the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Regional Coach of the Year and Megan Falcon was named the ITA Southwest Regional Senior Player of the Year, the ITA announced Monday.

The award marked the fifth time Minnis has been honored as the coach of the year for the Southwest region as he earned the award in 1995, 1999, 2004 and 2007.

Minnis, LSU’s all-time winningest women’s tennis coach, earned his 250th career victory when LSU defeated Oregon 5-1 on March 25, and he led LSU to the NCAA Tournament for the 14th time in 15 years.

Falcon, a native of Alameda, Calif., has been one of LSU’s most decorated tennis players in history. A three-time singles All-American and a three-time unanimous All-SEC First Team member, Falcon has amassed 97 career singles victories entering the NCAA Individual Championships which ties for eighth in school history.

Playing No. 1 singles for the third straight season, Falcon recorded a 19-3 dual mark this year, finishing her career with an incredible 62-7 dual record.

By earning the regional awards Minnis and Falcon are eligible for their respective national awards which will be announced at the NCAA Championships beginning Friday.
