BATON ROUGE — The LSU volleyball team wraps up its spring season Saturday by playing host to the LSU Spring Tournament at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
“Our players are extremely excited about getting the chance to play at home,” head coach Fran Flory said. “We wanted to focus on two things during the spring season. Increasing the tempo of our offense has come around to a level we’ve wanted, but developing into a consistent blocking team hasn’t made the progress we’ve needed to make. Hopefully, we’ll finish strong this weekend.”
The Tigers square off with Southern and Tulane at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. followed by afternoon tilts with Southern Miss and Southeastern Louisiana at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. All matches will be two sets to 25 points.
Marina Skender, Brittney Johnson, Brittnee Cooper and Michele Williams have had successful spring campaigns for the four-time defending SEC Western Division champions.
“Marina has recovered extremely well from her knee injury and is playing at a very high level. She gets better every time she takes the court,” Flory said. “Brittney also has had an outstanding spring along with Michele and Brittnee who are continuing to establish themselves as go to players in the middle.”
Lauren Waclawczyk has anchored the back row for the Tigers filling the void left by two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year Elena Martinez.
“Lauren has done a tremendous job with ball control,” Flory said. “We know that’s a big gap to fill with Elena gone. She’s worked very hard during the spring to accomplish being a solid ball control player for our back row.”
Admission is free for all matches.
