Kantor Named to SEC Community Service Team

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Nicole Kantor was named a member of the 2009 Southeastern Conference Women’s Tennis Community Service Team announced by the league office Wednesday.

Kantor, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., currently serves on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as the women’s tennis representative.

She has been active in the Baton Rouge community by assisting in LSU’s annual Halloween BOOzar where she set up and spearheaded the tennis activity station. Kantor and the tennis team set up a mini tennis court for the kids to play.

Kantor also participated in the Big Buddy’s Evening of Champions event by serving as a role model where she ate dinner, played games and interacted with the kids in the program.

She participated in the Christmas with the Tigers Toy Drive where she and the tennis team raised money to purchase presents for an underprivileged little girl and presented the gifts to the child at a program on LSU’s campus.

She also worked at the Duel Under the Oaks Children’s Clinic, which was a free clinic for kids to come and play with the tennis team in December.

Kantor visited Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital with members of the team, and she went room to room to visit patients in the children’s ward, handing out tennis posters and cheering up the kids and their families.

Kantor also volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Shelter where she put together brown bag dinners to serve to the homeless women who came.

On the tennis courts, Kantor is second on the team in singles victories with 25 and also holds a 14-7 dual record. Kantor is third on the team in doubles wins with 19, and she has been a steady force in singles and doubles all season for the Lady Tigers.

In addition to her work in the community and on the tennis courts, Kantor has also been strong in the classroom where she has garnered ITA Scholar-Athlete status both her freshman and sophomore seasons as she maintains a 3.91 cumulative GPA in public relations.
