Falcon Earns Third Career All-SEC Tennis Honor

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Megan Falcon of the women’s tennis team was a unanimous selection to the All-SEC First Team, the league office announced Tuesday.

Falcon, a senior from Alameda, Calif., became the first Lady Tiger in school history to earn All-SEC recognition in three seasons as she earned unanimous honors to the first team for the third straight year.

Falcon finished the regular season with an 8-3 record against conference foes playing at the No. 1 position in singles. Falcon finished 8-3 last season in SEC play to earn first team status, and she was a perfect 11-0 her sophomore season in 2007 on her way to earning SEC Player of the Year recognition.

With a 30-7 singles record this season Falcon is closing in on 100 career victories as she currently holds a 95-17 record which places her in a tie for 11th in school history. She needs two more wins to join a three-way tie for eighth place with former Lady Tigers Ana Paula Mores, Bruna Colosio and Sarah Stewart who finished their careers with 97 wins.

Falcon is currently ranked 13th nationally in singles and 19th in doubles with partner Mykala Hedberg, and the two have combined for a 26-7 record.

The league office released the All-SEC first and second teams, player of the year, coach of the year, scholar-athlete of the year and the All-Freshman team based on the votes of the league coaches. The first and second teams are each comprised of 12 players, and the freshman team lists five players.

The 23rd-ranked Lady Tigers will be back in action in the first round of the SEC Tournament Thursday at 12:30 p.m. CDT at Arkansas’ UA Varsity Tennis Courts. LSU, the 10th seed, will take on seventh-seeded Ole Miss.
