BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Juliana Santos and Louisiana Tech’s Wanda Malone were named the LSWA Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week Tuesday as voted upon by LSWA.
A freshman shortstop for the Tigers, Santos batted .429 for the week and tied for the team-lead with four RBIs, including the game-tying RBI in the seventh inning at Nicholls. The reigning SEC Freshman of the Week also provided a pair of multi-hit games as LSU took two of three games at Arkansas, including a two-run single in the second inning to break open the rubber game of the series.
A sophomore pitcher for the Lady Techsters, Malone made three appearances with a 0.55 ERA and held opponents to a .140 batting average. During her first start of the season, she pitched a career-high 10 innings allowing only two hits and recorded five strikeouts against one walk in a 1-0 victory over No. 25 Fresno State. At one point, she retired 15 consecutive Bulldogs.
It’s the first career weekly honor for both Santos and Malone from the LSWA.
